Jay Aspin returns to lead Near North District School Board

Jay Aspin is the new chair of the Near North District School Board, and Bill Steer will serve as vice chair.
“I stand before you humbled by the responsibility entrusted to me once again as chair of the Near North District School Board,” Aspin said.
He acknowledged the challenges posed by recent directives from Education Minister Paul Calandra. North Bay residents are upset and frustrated that the city is seemingly playing a waiting game with their health.
At a public information meeting on Wednesday evening, it was explained that the City of North Bay is waiting for the Department of National Defence (DND) to come up with additional funds to pay for a new treatment filtration system that can be hooked up to the municipal water system to deal with the as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) — also commonly referred to as ‘forever chemicals’ due to their inability to breakdown naturally in the environment — that were sprayed into Trout Lake watershed for decades by military firefighters.
