Drone crashes prompt postponement of this weekend's show

A drone show scheduled for this weekend has been postponed, after a pair of drones crashed during a similar show earlier this month.

The Aug. 3 display was scheduled to be part of the North Bay's Homecoming Festival.

"This proactive decision is being made out of an abundance of caution as we continue to review a recent incident involving a previous show and consider further safety measures," says a news release from the City.

Thunder Valley Semi Races rolls into Mattawa this weekend

The Thunder Valley Semi Races is a new event for the region, produced by Garry and Jennifer Anderson, who own and operate the Anderson Event Park. Truck Stop Canada reported that organizers of the Rodéo du Camion from Notre-Dame-du-Nord were thinking of relocating the event to Mattawa. However, that plan changed, and the Anderson’s decided to create an independent truck racing festival.

Air quality statement issued because of forest fire smoke

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for our area.

Smoke from forest fires over the Prairies is causing or expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility through Wednesday.

The weather agency says as smoke levels increase, so do the health risks.

North Bay showcases green efforts for community competition

Tina Liu and Karen Stephenson explored various locations, tourist attractions, and natural sites, evaluating efforts to combat climate change and promote a healthy environment.

Their itinerary included a morning walk through Laurier Woods and a visit to a local backyard garden.
