Lana Mitchell addresses provincial consolidation concerns after being acclaimed NBMCA Chair
North Bay councillor Lana Mitchell says she is “quite excited” after being acclaimed Chair of the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) Board.
“It’s been a bit of limbo for a little while,” Mitchell told BayToday after receiving the title during Wednesday’s Board meeting.
Homelessness spike in northern Ontario adds strain to mental health and addictions system
As homelessness continues to rise across northern Ontario, a new report is warning that the mental health and addictions system is facing unprecedented strain in the region.
The report, Protecting Northern Ontario for 1.3 cents on the Dollar, examines how the integration of housing and health infrastructure supports the region’s $34.6 billion economy.
Over $6 Million for Canadore and Nipissing
Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing announced that the Ontario government is investing $6.2 million in Canadore College and Nipissing University through the Facilities Renewal Program, the College Equipment Renewal Fund, and the Training Equipment Renewal Fund. This investment will provide upgrades and prepare college and university students for in-demand jobs.
“As part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario, this $6.2 million investment will strengthen the pipeline of highly skilled workers by ensuring students at Canadore College and Nipissing University have access to the latest equipment to gain experience our employers need to keep the province competitive,” said MPP Vic Fedeli.
Former Near North District School Board trustee calls on province to protect school boards
A former trustee with the Near North District School Board who was removed from office when the board was taken over by the province has started a petition opposing the removal of democratically elected trustees from their positions.
Bill Steer plans to send the petition to Education Minister Paul Calandra and Premier Doug Ford. It’s called ‘Keep School Board Trustees as Elected Officials in Ontario,’ and it had close to 500 signatures as of Thursday afternoon.
