North Bay's $63-million twin-pad arena remains on budget and on schedule

The new $63 million twin-pad recreation centre is on time and on budget, according to a city report being presented Monday. Council will receive an update on the project from David Jackowski, manager of special projects for the City of North Bay.

Construction of the new rink, located at the Omischl Sports Complex off Lakeshore Drive, commenced with site preparation in Dec. 2024.

As of October, the foundation is complete, structural steel is complete, the high roof is complete.

The project is expected to be completed by August...

Cedar Heights residents wary after meeting on new long term care home near Canadore

Despite reassurances from college officials, many Cedar Heights residents left Thursday's meeting with lingering doubts about the future of their neighborhood as plans for a new long-term care facility move forward.

Province will act if northern Ont. school board doesn’t reform

Following a scathing, 33-page Ministry of Education report about dysfunction and governance issues at the Near North District School Board, Ontario’s Minister of Education Paul Calandra is threatening to intervene if the board doesn’t take the matter seriously.

Calandra spoke to reporters in Toronto this week, urging the school board to act.

The ministry appointed Rachel Osborne to investigate why the new Parry Sound JK-Grade 12 school wasn’t ready when students returned to the classroom -- and why no contingency plan was in place...
