A push for accountability is driving new legal action in the governance battle over Castle Arms, the non-profit housing for more than 250 seniors in North Bay.
At a recent Castle Arms Board of Management meeting last Thursday, Chair Larry Fuld confirmed the Board has retained lawyer Rahul Shastri of Kagan Shastri LLP and launched multiple challenges aimed at the Mayor’s Committee on Castle Arms.
Fuld alleges the Mayor's Committee has held secret meetings that violate Ontario’s Municipal Act rules on open public meetings. Fuld says the Board is now seeking records tied to those gatherings.

After enjoying success in its inaugural year, Tourism North Bay says it is “counting down the days” until the return of the North Bay Winter Market Experience.
“This new festive event series has quickly become a cornerstone of the city’s Holiday season,” the organization said in a news release Monday.
The Winter Market Experience event will run on four weekends beginning Nov. 8 from 4-8 p.m. It continues on the weekends of Nov. 15 and 22, with an extended market Nov. 28 from 5-9 p.m.

North Bay OPP reports dangerous driving incident leads to 17 charges

A 38-year-old North Bay resident is facing 17 charges after the OPP says he failed to stop for officers during a traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon.
Ontario Provincial Police say they attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 17 West of North Bay, with a stationary OPP cruiser struck and a vehicle reported to be driving dangerously through a hospital parking lot then on Highway 11 north of the city.
Officers located the vehicle on Tomiko Lake Road in Merrick Township after it left the roadway and was damaged.
